Permanencia is a series of digital embroidered pieces on dissolvable fabric. These pieces are bigger scale reproductions of the last legal documents the artist possesses, that proved her legal status in Chile. As these documents become obsolete, and the last members of her family leave Chile, the artist reflects on her attachment to her homeland.
She questions the weight that her legal status, or lack of, holds over her and her sense of belonging. Furthermore, she interrogates the legitimacy of the system of citizenship and its links to imperialism and racial capitalism.
